Meet Sakari

From Surviving to Serving

The Horse Who Taught Me to Slow Down

Before Sakari ever became part of a vision for Warrior Ground, she became part of my healing.

Years ago, Sakari was scheduled for euthanasia. Neglected, underweight, and carrying more of a story than anyone realized, her future looked uncertain. What no one knew at the time was that she was pregnant.

She was rescued just in time.

As her health improved, she gave birth to a beautiful colt named Phoenix—a reminder that new life can emerge from even the darkest circumstances.

When Sakari came into my life, I wasn’t looking for a horse.

I was looking for healing.

As an above-knee amputee, I know what it feels like to rebuild after loss. I know what it feels like to question your strength, your identity, and your future. Horses have a remarkable way of seeing past all of that.

They don’t care about your scars.

They don’t care about your prosthetic leg.

They don’t care about your title, your accomplishments, or your struggles.

They simply meet you exactly where you are.

Sakari has taught me patience, trust, presence, and the importance of slowing down long enough to listen. She reminds me that healing doesn’t happen by force. It happens through connection.

Today, my dream is to share that gift with others through Warrior Ground.

Whether someone is navigating limb loss, trauma, grief, caregiving, or simply the challenges of life, Sakari’s story stands as a reminder that our hardest chapters do not define us.

She was once a horse whose future seemed hopeless.

Now she helps others discover hope for their own future.

This is Sakari.

A survivor.

A teacher.

A healing partner.

And a living reminder that second chances matter.

“Healing doesn’t happen by force. It happens through connection.”

Looking Ahead

Through Warrior Ground, my hope is to share the healing lessons Sakari has taught me with others navigating life’s challenges.

We are currently exploring future opportunities for equine-assisted wellness experiences for amputees, caregivers, first responders, veterans, and others seeking connection, confidence, and hope.

This journey is just beginning, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
